I am a young artist born and raised in Oregon City, Oregon. I spent a few years in Colorado state after my freshman year in college, then moved to Marysville, Washington where I currently live, with a loving boyfriend and our two dogs. My two artforms are photography and scratchboards.
I fell in love with photography when I was fourteen volunteering at a therapeutic riding center for disabled people of all ages. I would borrow my friend's camera while there and take photos of everything around me. It became a huge part of my personality. I got my own camera that Christmas and I took it everywhere with me. As I got older I got more experienced and in high school I took every photography class that I could. I learned so much and have spent every day of my life after that hoping to make it a career one day.
I fell in love with scratchboards in high school as well. I took an art class in my senior year, not expecting much other than having some fun and learning something new. It turned out to be one of the best decisions ever made. I was never good at drawing with pen and paper but when I grabbed the scratchboard utensil everything changed. I starting scratching my design from black to white, and the more I scratched the better it got. My art teacher pushed me to keep going, even going so far as to allow me to come in early, stay late, and take the supplies home. All I wanted every day was to create. I felt like I finally found something that was mine. As I got older I started making scratchboards for friends and family. Every year I make gifts of something handmade that take hours, days, weeks, but I wouldn't change it for the world.
I am older now and have spent almost ten years doing photography and almost five years doing scratchboards. My dream is that one day I will have a self-sustaining small business where I can share my talents with you and your family. I wish to create something special, something unique. My art is my passion and I will never stop following my dreams!
The definition of scratchboard is cardboard with a blackened surface that can be scratched or scraped off for making white line drawings.
